I no longer (regularly) visit deviantART. All my new(er) photos can be found on my homepage, which is also where you can get into contact with me.

Slightly longer version:
Hey there!
So, my first entry here was published on November 6th 2006. Wow, that's quite some time! And the last entry was on February 3rd, 2008, which obviously by now has been quite some time too! So, I figured, deviantART is a nice site no doubt, but over the time of my use, it became clear to me, that it's not what I was looking for to begin with.
I don't really crave social networking, so the ability to exchange with other fellows around here never really was a reason to stay. This is despite making friends I wouldn't want to miss! Why I signed up in the first place then? Well, I didn't just want to store my images, but rather also present them. deviantART allows you to do just that, dedicated. But I always prefer to take as much in my own hands as possible.
deviantART became tedious with the time. Always tagging your pictures, choosing a licence, being asked if I wanted to have prints and of course categorizing them. I don't mind spending time uploading my photos, but it became obvious to me, that it didn't feature everything I wanted and featured things I didn't want. I'm not going to say it restricted me, since it helped me getting into showing my pictures on a more sophisticated level than just uploading them to flickr, but taking over myself I'm much happier now.
So, I haven't given up photography, I don't hate you guys, I don't blame anybody for anything, I just wanted to let you know, that I'm still around - only in some other place. Feel free to drop by my page and have a look around.
Michael

But anyway, thanks for the comment!
I tried many distros and I can say that Fedora's not bad either. I personally don't like SuSE, it's terribly cluttered and I don't like Yast and so on, so I went for a very basic Debian install from which I then gradually installed everything I needed. More work, but worth the effort!
If you want to use compiz and so on I think that Ubuntu might not be the worst idea, as it really simplifies things which is good for beginners. Try it, see if you're satisfied, if not, try around. It might be annoying but as there are so many distributions you can hardly but try! Another distro you might want to look at is PCLinuxOS.
There surely are others, but I won't cover distro wars here XD.

As stated in my last journal entry, I barely frequent deviantART anymore. All my newer photos are uploaded on my homepage, which is where you can get in contact with me as well.
